About Word of Life Lutheran School

Word of Life Lutheran School has been serving students in the St. Louis community since 1973.

Word of Life school is blessed each year with the opportunity to share the love of God and the life-saving message of Jesus while equipping students in every way for this ever-changing world.

Word of Life Grade School is located at the intersection of Jamieson and Eichelberger Roads in St. Louis Hills, a community in south St. Louis, Missouri, with two preschool locations nearby.

Our Mission

Word of Life Lutheran School is committed to providing a high-quality educational program in an environment where Christ prevails, where a child’s human and spiritual needs are met, and where love, dignity and professional accountability are valued, promoted and implemented.

What We Believe

  • We believe that a Christian school, in which every subject is taught from a Christian point of view and where the teaching reflects the spirit of Christ, can be more successful in leading children to a vital Christian life than any other agency except the Christian home.
  • We believe that Word of Life Lutheran School thus supplements the religious training that the child receives at home and, in some cases, is the main source of training through which a child learns about his or her Savior.
  • We believe that the Word of Life Lutheran School must serve as a mission agency in the community.
  • We believe that Word of Life Lutheran School follows the directives of our Lord, “teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you,” and thus makes HIM the focal point of its educational process.
  • We believe that this school, in all its teachings and practices, subscribes to and supports the doctrines and doctrinal practices of the evangelical Lutheran Church, and specifically the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
  • We believe that the Word of Life Lutheran School, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and viewing the student through the cross of Christ, is concerned with the child’s total needs: physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual.
  • We believe that Word of Life Lutheran School is an agency of ministry for Ascension, Timothy and St. Lucas Lutheran congregations.

Our Core Values

Faith
Faith in Jesus is the best gift anyone can be given. Students are immersed every day with the message that God loves them. They are reminded that Jesus Christ died for our sins and that we are given the gift of eternal life when we believe in Him!

Academic Excellence
The NAEP report, often called the “Nation’s Report Card” ranked the Lutheran School system the #1 school system in the country. The U.S. Department of Education ranked the Lutheran system highest academically among all other schools, including Catholic, charter, or other private schools. Lutheran school students test 23% higher than the national average on standard achievement tests.

Faculty
The Word of Life staff is dedicated to showing the love of Christ to every student and meeting each child’s individual needs. They are committed to challenge each student to grow academically, spiritually, and socially. The staff is well qualified, with 50% of full-time faculty members holding advanced degrees. In addition, more than 50% of staff members hold a Lutheran Teacher Diploma and are listed on The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod Roster.

Student Opportunity
Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities at Word of Life. Athletic teams include volleyball, basketball, cross country, track and field, and soccer.  More opportunities include band, choir, student council, Lego robotics, scholar bowl, and piano lessons. Students are able to select activities that are the right fit for them!

Diversity
Word of Life is blessed to represent students from 11 different countries. The diversity of Word of Life better prepares students for citizenship in our multicultural society. The diversity promotes education as students develop an understanding of cultures different from their own. Love and respect is evident as students interact with one another. The Bible states in Matthew 28:19, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” It is a blessing that the nations are coming to Word of Life and receiving the message of Jesus while also growing academically with the rigorous education. To God be the glory!
