Word of Life 8th grade student Kayla Loesche was surprised by being chosen as a Darrik S. Sabada Memorial Scholarship recipient Tuesday at the Awards Assembly. Only six 8th graders were chosen out of seventy St. Louis area applicants, and she was one! She will receive $3000 in scholarships each year of high school at Lutheran South, so a total of $12,000. Kayla was nominated by the Principal, Mrs. Klug, for this award.
The Sabada family created a scholarship program for students who attend or will attend a parochial and other private high school. The scholarship is in honor of Darrik Sabada who passed away from cardiac arrhythmia when he was a junior at St. John Vianney in October 1999.
