School Update from Principal Bergholt

Word of Life Family,

As many of you have heard, St. Louis City and St. Louis County Public schools have announced that they will be closed from March 18th through at least April 3rd.  I am sure this decision was not made lightly and with the intent to hopefully slow the spread of this virus. This is new territory for us all.

In light of this decision and the state’s recommendation to cancel group events with over 50 people in attendance, Word of Life will also be closed until at least April 3rd.  Any activities or sports planned during the time we are closed are also cancelled.  We will continue to monitor the recommendations of the CDC and SLPS as that date in April approaches.

At this time, I will be contacting our teachers to determine what is the best course of action for our WOL students in terms of at home or e-learning.  I ask for your patience as we determine this as we have several teachers who are currently on trips with their families.  I will communicate with grade levels as plans come into place. To assist our teachers though, it would be helpful for them to know what capabilities for e-learning you have in your household.  Please click this link to complete a very brief survey for our teachers.

Last, but certainly not least, I want to talk about social distancing. If we have to adjust our school/work lives because of this pandemic, we also need to adjust our social lives. This is unfortunately not going to be a typical Spring Break. If we have home and online learning and everyone is homebound, it negates the purpose of all precautionary measures if we still get together socially. We all have to be home, it is going to be ROUGH, but this cannot be treated as a snow day situation where we leave our homes. We have to help hold each other accountable. This is going to be a very difficult time! But this is the time to rely on God.  I Peter 5:7 says “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” I am praying for all of you, as I always do, that you stay healthy from all illness. Thank you so much for your support during this ever changing time!

In Him,

Melissa Bergholt
