Music (K-8)

Word of Life School offers music class to all grade levels K-8.  Grades K-6 each have 30 minute class sessions twice a week.  Two 30 minute class sessions each week will also be part of the curriculum for those students who choose to take the music elective offered to 7th and 8th grade.

All grade levels will have a mixture of singing, instrument playing, rhythm practice, and moving to music during various parts of the year.

All students in K-6 grade will also get to take part in one 30 minute choir class every Wednesday.  These choirs will include multiple grade levels in a class and offer students a chance to learn to sing as part of a group.  Students will sing a variety of age appropriate music for their grade levels.  Students will use this time, and some time in music classes, to prepare music for the Christmas Concert.

5th and 6th Grade: This is now a joint class.  Students will use the 5th grade textbook one year and the 7th grade textbook the following year.  This will ensure all students receive all materials covered in both books.  During the 2015-16 school year, the 7th grade book will be used.

7th and 8th Grade: This course is now an elective course.  A special focus will be placed on music theory, culminating with a student composition project, as well as a focus on musical history and how styles have changed over time.  Some choral work may be included to allow these students to still have a choral experience since choir is no longer offered for 7th and 8th grade.
